Voices of The Lakota

April 28, 2019 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Experiential Learning and Collaboration Course with The Oglala Lakota People Presents:

Voices of The Lakota.

9 members of the Marlboro College community ate, lived and traveled together for a 2 week trip to The Pine Ridge Reservation. Pine Ridge has the reputation of the poorest reservation in this U.S. We worked to understand this at the same time as we worked to understand how to be respectful visitors. We will share excerpts from video interviews and thoughts on our experiences visiting various elders and families. We will also talk about the non-profit organizations we visited, such as Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation, White Clay Makerspace, B.E.A.R. Project (Better Education and Reading), Lakota Solar Enterprises. The work of these organizations is crucial to addressing some of the issues people on the Reservation face.

7pm, Sunday April, 28th at 118 Elliot Street, Brattleboro
