The American Institute of Architects Vermont chapter’s touring exhibition of the 2018 Vermont Excellence in Architecture Awards comes to Brattleboro at 118 Gallery through our ongoing partnership with AIAVT.
The 2018 award-winners were selected by a jury of Minneapolis peers from 36 entries submitted by AIAVT member architects.
One of two “Honor Awards” was received by Scott Simons for our own Brattleboro Music Center at 72 Blanche Moyse Way. In 2016, the Music Center approached Simons with a challenge: Design education and performance spaces for teaching children classical chamber music using an abandoned elementary school, and complete the project with a shoestring budget.
Another local award-winner is Gossens Bachman Architects’ Red Clover Commons Housing, a 55-unit apartment building at 30 Fairground Road, which tied for second place in the Peers’ Choice Awards. The September exhibit at 118 Elliot features posters from all project entries, from these local winners to remote lake camps and a variety of private residences.
